Can You Wear Hiking Boots Casually Every Day?
Yes, you could wear Hiking boots casually every day. Hiking boots are comfortable, durable, waterproof, and also provide great support for your ankles during walking around the town. From rainy seasons to cold winter, hiking boots withstand every harsh weather condition. Hiking boots are most preferred in hiking and also in construction works because they give great ankle support when a person lifts heavy weights or walks on uneven surfaces. But how will they react on normal concrete roads?
Is it Bad to wear hiking boots on concrete?
Hiking boots are designed to penetrate the layer on the soil when you climb and it is called lugs pattern (traction-giving bumps on the outsole). Hiking boots have deeper and thicker lugs as compare to casual wear shoes. But these lugs wear out faster on the concrete, and after some time these hiking boots can’t be used on hiking. You’ll have less grip and it will be difficult for you to climb far, without proper grip.
Feeling when wearing hiking boots casually
You probably have walked in hiking boots while hiking on uneven, unpaved trails but it’s different when you wear them on concrete in your everyday life. Before wearing Hiking boots casually every day, you must consider their advantages and disadvantages. I personally did this experiment to get the exact and perfect opinion before suggesting you try every day.
Hiking boots are heavy as compared to your normal causal shoes, although they are more durable you’ll find it difficult to wear them for a long time. You are going to have a hard time walking around all day with hiking boots.
Experiment Personally Performed
I traveled about 3 miles with hiking boots on concrete. To get the perfect result, calculated how much time I took to complete 3 miles.
Hiking Boots
It took 1 hour 20 minutes to complete 3 miles with hiking boots.
After completing the test my feet were sweaty, but I was not feeling any ankle or leg pain.
Casual Shoes
On the other day, I performed the same experiment with my casual sneakers.
It took almost 1 hour 5 minutes to complete the 3-mile radius. Almost, 15 minutes faster than hiking boots. Although, I felt ankle pain and tight calves.
Hiking boots are heavy than casual sneakers, so you’ll have to work harder to lift weights when you walk and you are going to get tired easily.
How Hiking boots protect your feet?
Hiking boots are made of durable material and added extra cushioning for better comfort for your feet. Hiking boots have strong material and they protect your feet from small cuts or damage if something fell on your feet.
If you live in cold weather, they provide additional heat to your feet. They are waterproof, so they are less breathable, which created a rise in temperature in your feet. It’s good for a person in cold weather, but worse in hot weather.
Ankle support
Many people consider this a myth and some people have a different opinion. To get the exact result for you, I personally and my friend who has sports injury and my grandfather ( above year old) chose to experiment with hiking boots.
Experiment to prove hiking boots ankle Support
We have to get the proper results, and there is nothing better to perform with every age group and a person with a sports injury.
Age 72 years
Let’s start with how hiking boots supported my grandfather’s ( age – 72-year-old) ankles and legs. According to the grandfather, hiking boots were quite heavy, tight around the corners, and also makes his legs kept straight ( that reduces pain in his legs and ankles). Hiking boots cushions managed to distribute the weight of legs equally and support the ankle and legs by not bending ankles very often.
Age 27 years
When I personally perform this experiment, there was no difference, I didn’t felt that I have extra ankle support. But they were heavy in comparison to my running shoes.
Age 28 years with sports knee and ankle injury
When my friend who had a sports knee injury, used the hiking boots. He also had the same experience as my grandfather. They could walk easily without any pain in their ankle, or knee.
From our experiments, we have the result that hiking boots work better for the elderly and people with ankle/ legs injury. It gives them additional support for walling in everyday life. But for adults, it is not the ideal choice to wear them casually every day.
Wearing Hiking boots casually in the office
I personally will never recommend you to wear hiking boots in your office. Although every office dress code policies are different, you don’t want to stand out differently from everyone else. All are wearing formal shoes and you are wearing hiking boots, and it looks informal towards your company.
Can Hiking Boots Be Used For Every day Running?
Yes, hiking boots can be used for everyday runny. Hiking boots are designed for two purposes, first to withstand any harsh climate conditions, and second to hike( and hike involves running, climbing on an uneven surface).
But they are not the ideal option for running. They support ankles, provide cushions for feet, add an extra layer of sole for jumping on a hard surface. But besides all that, they do not provide the perfect feet posture for running concrete. And also they slow the runner with the additional weight.
But some people love to train with additional weight on their feet, it is one of the techniques used to increase speed. But the faster you use you run, the quicker your sole wears of, as it is not designed for running on the concrete.
Hiking boots are expensive and it’s better to use them only for hiking if you use them every day you could spoil them easily and it’s not worth it.
